The Art of Making Dances
by Doris Humphrey
from what I understand, Doris was a very structured and traditional choreographer.a reviewer describe her method as making a grocery list to check of the essential dance elements. a good structure for beginners, and also good to chuck in the bin once it becomes too restrictive.
The Intimate Act of Choreography
by Lynne Anne Blom & L. Tarin Chaplin
not much information on this book, but if i can find it in a library, i would like to take a peek. seems to be a middle ground between rigidity and creative freedom.
Chorepgraphy: A Basic Approach Using Improvisation
by Sandra Cerny Minton
while the Intimate Act of Choreography summary mentioned the use of improvisation, this book makes it a focus along with the other more planned pieces of choreography. looking at the previews inside the book, this seems to be the furthest down the spectrum, sliding away from Doris' rigidity.

three strands alternating: a driving bassline, floating synths, and minimalist rattling.
apparently, the bassline is a sample from Open Your Eyes, You Can Fly by Flora Purim. very very different overall feel

a mad cacophony of news anchors resolves into a nice piece of turntablism
out at target last night, i found some truly amazing pieces of cheap (but highly overpriced) jewelry. i think the inspiration must have come from katamari, but the execution was terrible. if they were going to emulate the giant rolling ball of craziness, they could have included some jeweled animals, toys, food, and other oddities instead of poorly set faceted glass and plastic sprayed with gold paint. perhaps it was actual metal, but something very light weight.
